The Story of the Run

Run with the Sun Musicfest
June 16th and 17th, 2023
Sycuan Reservation

The Run with the Sun Water Prayer Run began on July l0th, 2022, with the Passamaquoddy people at the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in the state of Maine. A ceremony occurred to start the journey consisting of a blessing, prayer, songs from the Passamaquoddy Women Singers, and a merging of water taken from the San Diego River/Pacific Ocean at South Mission Beach Jetty.

Water was then gathered from the Atlantic Ocean and is currently traveling with the Spirit Runners, who will cross every major waterway on Turtle Island, along with a Chanupa and two Eagle Staffs on its way back to San Diego.

The run will end approximately on June 14th, 2023, with the merging of water as the Atlantic Ocean joins the Pacific Ocean in San Ysidro on the beach. A celebration held in Sycuan, a Kumeyaay Nation, on June 16th and June 17th, 2023, will consist of an honoring for those who took part in the journey and a family-friendly weekend of events.

The music festival will feature artists of all genres, including national acts, international recording artists, local bands, cultural performances, vendors, and local artisans. The festival will be an opportunity to showcase those in our community and allow people to have a unique experience.
